Opossums can be a real unhealthy threat to your surroundings or even your house. They are a small rodent species, although quite bigger than a rat with sharp teeth and claws. If you really find these to be a trouble in your house, do not entertain its presence and try to get rid of it as soon as possible.
Opossums are generally nocturnal and are attracted to your house for food, nesting places or hiding spots. These creatures are not very easily scared away by human presence, and may often get aggressive if they find you to be a threat to them. Especially beware of diseased animals. They can be way to aggressive and carrying harmful diseases with them.
So what to do if you really want to get rid of too much opossums in your house and surroundings:
Clean Your Attic
For example clean your attic and basement and clear away the rubbish wastes at least once every fortnight and seal up unused entrances that you feel a possum might use to have its way in, like unused exhaust openings and vents and dryer channels. If you store old junks and wastage in your backyard, get rid of it as soon as possible.
Clean your garbage cans everyday or every alternate day. Do not keep food sources open that might attract opossums. And these food sources include your trash can. Use a heavy weight to keep the trash can lid tightly closed. Be careful even while feeding your pets outside. Make sure they do not loiter much. And even if they do clean them up quickly. Try feeding pets inside the house. Even bird seeds or fruits fallen out of a tree attracts opossums.
