Diarrhea can convert your good day into a total nightmare. Imagining you stomach and bowel giving you a tough time while you are giving a presentation in a business meeting. If you haven’t been through such awkwardly disturbing moments, consider yourself to be lucky. If similar situations arise rarely, there is nothing to panic about. However, if it happens frequently, you should understand that something is wrong with your stomach. It is therefore very important to have at least some basic knowledge about diarrhea.
Diarrhea is usually caused due to bacterial or viral infections and is easily spread through unhygienic food and contaminated water. Diseases like Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Celiac Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome can also be the cause for diarrhea. Sometimes, medications and treatment procedures such as chemotherapy, blood pressure medications, cancer medications, and antibiotics can also cause loose motions.

- If you are looking for a home remedy, the first thing you can do is to modify the way you eat food. Try to take as much liquid food as possible, and take solid foodstuffs in small amounts so that your digestive system does not take more stress than it can bear. Furthermore, consume bland foods like tea, toast, applesauce, bananas, and rice. They tend to soothe your digestive tract to prevent further upsets and discomforting feelings.
If your diarrhea is because of food poisoning, try eating burnt toast as it treats alcohol poisoning and neutralizes toxins just like medicinal charcoal. Yogurt is recommended if your diarrhea is caused due to a side effect of some antibiotic, because it provides a suitable medium for the growth of good bacteria that may have been killed by the antibiotics. Ginger and peppermint are two very helpful plants if you are suffering from diarrhea and wish to provide yourself an extra boost at home. The anti-inflammatory properties of ginger soothe bowels and aid digestion. Fresh mint can also stop diarrhea by soothing the intestinal muscles.
